Welcome to Art Assemblages.com. Ms. Peggy Vermeer is an effervescent, Palm Springs, California, premiere fine artist and teacher. Outgoing, fun-loving – she is as down-to-earth and straightforward as she is talented. Ms. Vermeer is one to express herself – in life and through her work – and we are all the better for it. When painting, she begins with a blank canvas, toiling to make elements from scratch, and then fills the canvas with color, textures, images, and bits of paper or fabric. The results are universal narratives, metaphors told with simplicity and elegance. Her artistic renderings reflect the process of creating ourselves over a lifetime, bit by bit, layer by layer. "As an artist, I began my career at fifteen years of age when I created many works that were well-recieved. I have exhibited since 1972 in Palm Springs, California, in the Desert Art Museum, City of Palm Springs Art Exhibits, City of Palm Desert Civic Show, Desert Art Source Gallery, Danskin Art Gallery, San Bernadino Art Association and the Riverside Cultural Art Council and many galleries aorund the Coachella Valley. My work is mixed media using collage, acrylics and found objects in some pieces. Assemblage represents a new context to my work..." Vermeer makes bold statements with her work with include such diverse "found" items as bullet-riddled computers and crack pipes. Through her time at the Palm Springs Museum, not only has she influenced countless generations of artists, but has also had the opportunity to meet world leaders such as President Ronald Regan.
